Overcoming Your Fear of Failure

One of the most common drivers of self sabotage is the fear of failure. 

The fear of failure is the idea that you’ll go all in on your hopes, dreams and goals, you’ll do all the things, take all the action, but it still won’t be good enough. 

It becomes easier to remind yourself over and over again why you can’t do it, why it’s not possible or realistic for you, because your brain is simply trying to keep you safe. 

You see, in the past your failure was likely met with a lot of shame, guilt, anger, frustration, self loathing, and most of the time it was from yourself, not even other people. So of course your brain is only going to try to keep you safe by avoiding anything that could bring about this potential failure and potential “danger” of negative feelings. 

This is how ALL brains work. Nothing has gone wrong; it’s totally normal. 

The problem is that it’s not helpful in this day and age. 

I struggled for YEARS trying to lose weight, eating low carb, trying to cut calories, running more in the gym, but I never created the results I wanted in my body or on the scale. 

One of the reasons this failure hit harder than others was that my value and worthiness was wrapped tightly in my body size, shape and weight. I thought that if I had the right body, then I’d be good enough… then I’d be wanted. 

This thought that I was unwanted stemmed from an early childhood experience where my young brain was just trying to make sense of the world.
