My Emotional Eating Story - Part 1

Jul 27, 2021

From the time I was 7 or 8 I thought I was fat.

Not that I was, but there were comments I picked up from my mom, grandma, and aunt about weight and the importance of being thin or skinny. I was simply trying to make sense of the world around me, and my little brain concluded that being thin (and being praised as such) was very important.

I look back now and my heart breaks for that little girl who thought she needed to be thinner or look a certain way in order to be loved and accepted.

But my story isn’t unique - so many women struggle their entire lives to lose weight, keep it off, love and accept their body, and mistakenly base their value and self-worth on the number on the scale or the size of their pants.

Not only that, but all our struggles to lose weight, struggles to keep it off, and the shame, judgement, and self-loathing that ensues when you don’t become the hardest to bear. Because it’s not just about the weight or the size - it’s about what we make those numbers mean about ourselves.

It took me a LONG time to change my mental game with food, fitness, body and ultimately in the way I talked to myself. I am a recovering perfectionist, so I still work on my self talk and feelings of not being good enough DAILY, but I know this is the “work” necessary to change your life forever.

Today I’m taking you behind the scenes of my own personal struggle with weight loss, emotional eating, body image and what led me to become a coach in this very area today. Keep listening and I’ll show you how you can break the restrict-binge-regret cycle that has you trapped in Diet Hell (with all your sh*tty thoughts).

What’s in this episode:

  • How to find the source of your beliefs about yourself (hint: start with your childhood)
  • My personal ups and downs with food, weight loss and body image.
  • Why all my attempts to simply eat less and exercise more failed.
  • How to keep going, even when you’ve spent the money, tried the programs, hired the coach and it still hasn’t worked.
